- new activities: outdoor events at camp
From the Book of Judges, we highlight the theme "Break the Cycle". We'll inspire teens (and their leaders!) to emulate the good examples and overcome the bad examples of the characters in this book of the Bible.
Main speaker Pastor Conroy Lewis shares on this theme. Workshops teach us both what to do and what not to do from the lives of the judges:
1- Break Out; Step Up! (Teacher: Jay Fisher)
Biblical Summary: (Joshua 15:13-19; Judges 1:8-15, 3:1-11) – Israel’s first judge,
Othniel, knew how to turn away from sins openly accepted by those around him and how to turn around the people of God. While other Israelites freely
intermarried with ungodly nations and worshiped idolatrously (3:6), Othniel turned toward the Lord (1:12-13) and led others to do the same.
2- Break Out of Insecurity (Teachers: Christian & Allie Mickey)
Biblical Summary: (Judges 4) – Barak was insecure, not in a hurry to serve the
Lord, preferring to drag his feet or let others lead. Barak lacked confidence in who he was and in who God was. Meanwhile Deborah, serving as a wife, prophetess, and judge, showed full devotion to the Lord as warrior (chapter 4) and worshiper (chapter 5).
3- Break the Cycle of Sexual Sin (Teacher: Nate Rittenburg)
Biblical Summary: (Judges 13-16) – Rooted in self-centeredness, Samson’s sin
evidenced itself in anger, lust, pride, and vengeance. Because of the lack of
“guardrails” in his life, Samson was unable to break the cycles of sin in his life.
4- Break the Unknown (Teacher: Tim Swan)
Biblical Summary: (Judges 6) – It took a lot for Gideon just to obey God. Even
when he had a mission, he still hesitated to step out in faith. Even when he had clarity, he still sought reassurance, but God had a mission for him to do and Gideon wasn’t sure about it.
